Life is one of those uncontrollable aspects of nature. We think we control our own lives, destinies, and futures. Sadly it is an illusion.
Not one of us can ever be assured of what tomorrow brings. We live not by the day, but by the moment. What was in the moment can change in the blink of an eye. Life is not ours to control. We simply make choices and life dictates the end results.
Humans are fickle and we so often think we are granted all the time we need to do as we feel. When sudden events we did not expect happen, it is then we wake to the epiphany "life is to short". We begin to rationalize and reflect on our lives. We see then how future orientated we are. We assumed it was safe to plan weeks or months in advance. All the while life simply smiles at us and will most likely alter or even eradicate our plans.
Very few in this life actually live in the moment. These are the people who are told they have no imagination or desires. It is not that they lack these things. It is them being realistic and knowing it is not conducive to life's agenda to plan so far ahead. The mere thought we control our lives is us as humans thinking we are superior to the forces of life and time itself.
A simple philosophy which cannot be refuted in any way is this. Life will chose our destiny. We are simply along for the ride and choices we make are given to us by the design of life. There are forces in this world we as humans do not fully grasp. That is how it was meant to be. Each one of us has his or her own views on these forces and no two individuals see them alike.
Life and Love are two forces we simply cannot explain why it is what it is. We ask "why am I here" and "what is love"? The answers to these two questions are as varied as the appearances of humans. This is life.
